The Bright Sadness

I learned through 24-7 Prayer in their Deeper Guide – Week 1 (Jesus: Walks) [a pdf file] that this is how the Orthodox sometimes refer to Lent. The Bright Sadness. I think it’s beautiful. It reminds me of what we were talking about a few entries back, re light in the darkness (see: Focus)

They have a quote from Father Alexander Schmemann’s book, as seen below.  The quote opens with:  “Little by little, we begin to understand, or rather to feel, that this sadness is indeed “bright”, that a mysterious transformation is about to take place in us.”
