St. Rita of Cascia

St. Rita, intercede for all women who suffer in difficult marriages that they may discover the best response to their cross.  May we, like you, someday find our highest longing for holiness fulfilled.  Through Christ our Lord.  Amen.”

  1. Amen.

I’ve often thought the best response to my very minor cross was a one-way ticket to Ireland (which himself suggested first). But I didn’t want him to have to do without me, because then, he’d have no cross at all– he doesn’t even need morning coffee.

It’s too bad my mom didn’t know of St. Rita — but if my father avoided a dark, raw, unendingly purge-less eternity (and I prayed so and prayed so), then it was my mom’s prayers for him and her guiding him away from sin (even when she was terrified) that surely acted as the holy coattails to lift him clear of the most sulphurous place.

    Who knew they were sisters?

  2. You’re welcome, Cathy. St. Rita certainly had an “interesting” life, to say the least. It’s good to know that women (and men too) who are experiencing difficulty in marriage can pray to her for strength, guidance and discernment, in major decisions and in the daily difficulties as well.

Carol, who knew, indeed. We discover more of our mystical-bindedness every day, don’t we.
